It is easy to love Jesus when you know what He has done for us – Bible verse on love
“If you love me, keep my commandments”.
This Bible verse on love in chapters 14 to 17 of John’s Gospel Jesus is speaking to His disciples and to future Christian believers who would come to faith later. In some ways, He is bequeathing an inheritance by laying down many truths and blessings to come after His imminent death and resurrection. One promise is for answered prayer. Jesus says, if you ask anything in my Name, I will do it. He also promises to pray that the Father would send the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, who will lead us in all truth.
Sandwiched between these two blessings, there is one short verse – “if you love me, keep my commandments”. This short statement is such a small request from Jesus when He is giving us so very much. Jesus only really gave one commandment to follow anyway:
Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come,’ so now I say to you. A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. (John 13:33-34)
This is such a simple request from the Lord Jesus and in return we inherit so much. However, we cannot do anything of ourselves, but need to trust His grace and mercy to walk in love at all times.
Dear Heavenly Father. You have given us so much by sending your dear Son, Jesus. Thank you that in Him we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Not only that but you promise to answer our prayers when we pray in the Name of Jesus. Also, you have sent the Holy Spirit to lead us to all truth. Please let me show my love back and keep your commandment, to love those around me, as you have loved me. I pray this in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
