Bible encouragement verse to give you hope
Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
Bible encouragement verse to give you hope. If you ever have any doubts about your progress in your faith be reminded on these inspirational words written by the Apostle Paul to the Christians at Philippi – the Philippians.
Paul himself was actually in prison, for the sake of the Gospel, whilst writing this letter. He sounds joyful as he writes, saying that his incarceration has, in fact, meant the furtherance of the Gospel. Paul knows that he may face a martyrs death but he speaks so nonchalantly about that because he knows either way, whether he lives or dies, he will be blessed:
For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labour for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith
Philippians 1: 21-24
Paul was very caring of the early churches of his time. As an Apostle, many churches were actually started by him. As he begins to write his letter to the Philippians he says he is confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. However, who is the ‘he’ that Paul is referring too? The answer is God Himself as the Holy Spirit working in the believers hearts and lives.
No wonder Paul is confident that should he die, he knows that all will be well for the Christian believers young in their faith. So, what does Paul base his confidence upon? Well, before Jesus left the earth to return to the Father, he spoke these words in John’s Gospel:
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counsellor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever — the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.
John 14: 16-17 (Amplified Version)
The Holy Spirit is here with us, the church – the assembly of Christian believers past, present and future. He abides with us forever, the Spirit of Truth. Not only does He lead us into all truth but he helps us, comforts us, counsels us, strengthens us and is an advocate for us.
Therefore, if you ever have any doubts about your progress in your Christian walk, remember that He, the Holy Spirit who leads you into all truth, and is with you to comfort and strengthen you, has begun a good work in you and will enable you to do whatever you have been called to do and live a fulfilled life in Christ full of the fruits of righteousness.
