I am the light of the world whoever follows me will not walk in darkness John 8: 12

John 8: 12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

This Bible verse of the day is a scripture on grace and hope

Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”

In John’s Gospel Chapter 8, the stage is set for an amazing showdown between Jesus and the religious people who contended with him. They were always looking for ways to catch him and trap him into saying the wrong thing. However, not once did Jesus ever say something that was not a great truth.

Imaging the scenario, a woman is brought to Jesus who has been caught committing adultery (the man she was apparently caught in the act with is not mentioned). Under the strict Law of Moses she should have been stoned to death. The scribes and Pharisees (religious class of the day), pressed Jesus to comment as this woman was brought to him. Notice that in John 8 verse 6 Jesus is stooped down writing on the ground with his finger. There is nothing insignificant recorded in the Bible. Why was this gesture by Jesus recorded? Jesus then raised himself up and said, ‘let him who is without sin among you throw a stone at her’. He then continued writing on the ground. After that statement, each one was conscience-stricken and one by one, beginning with the eldest, they departed.

Jesus then addressed the woman and said to her, ‘Woman, where are your accusers? Has no man condemned you? …. I do not condemn you either – go on your way, and from now on sin no more’.

The next statement Jesus made was, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12).

When Jesus was stooping down writing on the ground with his finger – it was the same finger that wrote the Law on the tablets of stone handed to Moses! When the Jews were in the wilderness, after their exodus from Egypt they gave a startling boast. They said that they could keep every law that was given them by Moses. The first Passover had just occurred (when the blood of a lamb was put on the doorframe of their houses, so death passed over them in Egypt). They were effectively saying that they did not need grace but they could do anything that was asked of them by God by their own self-effort. Also, they had not seen the mystery of the blood of the Lamb covering their sins and the curse of death.

Later Jesus said to the religious onlookers, ‘You set yourself up to judge according to the flesh – by what you see; you condemn by external human standards’ (John 8:15 Amplified Bible). How many of those onlookers were also guilty of adultery just by their thoughts?

We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) but Jesus is saying that not only is he not condemning us but that He is the light of the world and if we follow Him we will not follow the dark ways of sin and death. How else could he say to the woman, ‘go and sin no more’? He was the answer to adultery – he is the answer to every human sinful condition.

What a wonderful Saviour we have in Jesus.

Prayer

Father, I know that I cannot do anything by my own self-effort. I need your light to light my way and lead me into life and freedom from sin and guilt. Forgive me when I have failed in thought or in deed. I receive your grace and mercy in every area of my life in the Name of Jesus. Amen.

God’s creative power and God’s pre-eminence. John 1:3-4

The Bible verse of the day is an inspirational Bible verse of faith.

All things were made through him. Without him was not anything made that has been made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. John 1:3-4

This Bible verse is found in John’s Gospel. It comes after:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

These scripture verses speak of God’s creative power and His preeminence and preexistence before our known Universe.

Whatever you may believe about the formation of the Universe and how it was made, the Bible says that God was before all things, even before the earth was made. I believe there is something significant about the word light in this context too.

In Genesis 1 it says:

God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.  God saw the light, and saw that it was good. God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light “day”, and the darkness he called “night”. There was evening and there was morning, the first day. (Genesis 1:3-5)

The fascinating thing about this well-know Bible scripture about creation is that God created light before He created the sun, moon and stars. Is this initial light at creations something different from the usual light of our known physical Universe?! Could this light me the glory of God? It is something I have thought about. I really do not have the answer but I am sure that the answer is something glorious and wonderful – perhaps it is the fabric of Heaven? I will leave that to the experts to ‘enlighten’ us (no pun intended!).

Where is says, In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. (John 1:3), I wonder if this is the same light as described in Genesis – the light that initiated the creation of the Universe and Earth.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139: 13-14

Inspirational Bible verse

Psalm 139:13-14

For you formed my inmost being.
You knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I will give thanks to you,
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Your works are wonderful.
My soul knows that very well.

This verse of the day is a Bible verse of encouragement and an inspirational Bible verse.

It is amazing to think that God planned you. Nobody who is born is an accident in the eyes of God. Not only that but God has placed eternity in everyone’s  heart.

Biology is a very interesting and complex subject. The most simple cell of a single-celled organism is more complex than anything man could design and build.

A single yeast cell is far more complex than the large hadron collider at CERN for example. One cell is rather like a super-metropolis city running all the processes of life superbly efficiently without the need for city councils or other governing officials. Each cell takes its instructions from its DNA. Every single moment of life involves many dynamic instructions from its DNA as new proteins are made and used for life. Now if that is for one simple cell in a mere yeast cell, now imagine a human with its many different types of cells in many different types of organs all interconnected.

From the moment of conception a miracle occurs in a single egg cell. The DNA from the parents is exchanged and a unique individual has been created. Although only one cell, genes will start to work and under their direction, the cells begin to divide. Each new cell already is planned for its next cell division and then another division in turn creating all the different organs and body parts. Eventually an adult human will have 30 trillion vastly differentiated cells all with mild-blowing complexity particularly the human brain. It’s absolutely amazing and still a mystery to science how an embryo becomes a baby and then an adult.

For a Christian who believes that God is the author and designer of life, Psalms 139 is particularly inspirational and beautifully poetic. From one single unique cell at conception, God weaves together traits from father and mother and then step by steps forms the inward parts – the heart, brain, bones, gut, blood vessels etc. The organs are covered in muscles, ligaments and skin but also creating beauty, symmetry, grace and form. Indeed we are fearfully and wonderfully made. No wonder we can say marvellous are your works. Instinctively everyone that has a soul knows that of themselves or whenever they see a new born baby or even a baby animal.

Personally I believe that since the fall, creation has been in decline. It is devolving, not evolving, due to Adams’s curse and the law of sin and death. All living things are carrying a mutational load that we have inherited from our parents. Yet we still see such beauty everywhere in people, animals, plants and fungi (even humble soil fungi are necessary for plants and trees to grow). I think Adam and Eve were probably absolutely beautiful humans and the pinnacle of creation. I expect they had incredible minds and gifted in music and art. Since then there has been a slow and steady decline. However, still our souls know well that whenever a baby is born, that child has been fearfully and wonderfully made.

If anyone has lost a child due to miscarriage or abortion I believe that they are with the Lord now and God has completed his work of formation and completion. I believe heaven is a wonderful place and we will be reunited with our loved ones. Nobody conceived is ever a mistake as far as God is concerned. He loves them all. He is the father of spirits and each human spirit is given a body prepared in their mothers womb. If you have had an abortion God will forgive you if you ask Him. Jesus died for you and he will welcome you with open arms when you turn to him. That child is in Heaven.

Of course, although we all start out as a unique embryo in our mothers’ wombs, we all have a choice as to how we will live our lives and where we wish to spend eternity. It must be so sad for God when we reject His goodness and love. If you would like to know God, the one who made the miracle that is you please say this simple prayer of salvation. He will welcome you with open arms and give you the deepest peace that will surpass understanding.

A Bible verse on healing. James 5:15

A Bible verse on healing.  James 5:15

And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. James 5:15

The Bible verse of the day is a scripture on healing. It is also a Bible verse on faith and grace.
There are Christian believers who have taken this scripture by faith and have seen the healing of physical diseases and sicknesses for their loved ones even those on their death beds.
Smith Wigglesworth was a Victorian  preacher, born in 1859.  He was from Yorkshire, England and a plumber by trade before embarking on a full-time preaching and healing ministry. He was unschooled and when he did eventually learn to read, he only read the Bible. So powerfully was he used by God that nine people were raised from the dead under his ministry. These are apparently documented cases.
On one occasion the following account of healing was documented where a young man was bed-bound and close to death:
How marvelous would it be for these days of faith and miracles to be restored in this generation.  It is completely God’s will to pray for the sick and they would recover.  Here’s a website where healings today are being documented:
And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;  they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (Mark 16: 17-18 NKJV)
Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
(Luke 18:8)
